On October 20, 2011 Colonel Muammar Gaddafi معمر محمد أبو منيار القذافي  also known as the Brother Leader, Falcon of Africa and the king of kings in Libya, was crouching in a storm drain, severely injured with a few remaining bodyguards . Officially , he had resigned as head of state in the 1980s and became the  "Brotherly Leader and Guide of the First of September Great Revolution of the Great Socialist People's Libyan Arab Jamahiriya" but was in fact in firm control of Libya until the 2011 civil war. Within minutes he would be dragged out, beaten, shot an killed by enraged rebel fighters.

How did it come to this ? How did Gaddafi rise to power from the son of an impoverished and illiterate goat herder to rule Libya for 42 years, dream of uniting the Arab world and amass an estimated $200 billion dollar fortune

( making him the richest man in the world by some accounts ) and why did it end so violently ?

His supporters praise his achievements in providing health care, increasing literacy, free education to the university level and engineering feats such as the Great Manmade River project . His detractors point the many human right abuses, lack of freedom, sponsorship of international terrorists movements which cut off Libya from most of the world as a pariah state and squandering Libya's oil wealth on his unworkable socialist Jamahiriya plan, importing sub-Saharan African mercenaries to kill Libyans and cronyism. Gaddafi saw himself as a divinely chosen leader and belived to the bitter end that " All my people love me. " This is his story .
